Asha’s story shows the impact of supportive programs such as scholarships and workshops. Overcoming financial challenges and utilizing mentorship opportunities, Asha transformed her life and set herself on a path to academic and personal success. Here, she shares her journey in her own words.
”My name is Asha Hassan, and my story is one of determination and growth. I completed high school in 2022 and am now pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Kiswahili at Moi University.
The KEF scholarship and mentorship programs played a significant role in my success. During high school, these programs taught us valuable lessons about hygiene, choosing friends wisely, discovering our talents, and nurturing them. Our coordinators regularly visited us at school to ensure we were doing well, especially academically. This motivated me to work hard because I knew that if my grades slipped, I might lose my scholarship.
One of my biggest challenges was my family's financial situation. After finishing primary school, I was stressed because my mother couldn't afford to pay for my high school education. Thankfully, the KEF program provided me with a full scholarship for four years, relieving our financial burden and allowing me to focus on my studies.
The CREW workshop I attended also had a profound impact on me. It gave me a clear picture of what life in university would be like, taught me how to write a good CV, and how to market myself in the job industry. Last year, I had the opportunity to visit the Amazing Wonders Children's Home with the KEF alumni group, which was an incredibly rewarding experience.
Thanks to KEF, I am now a university student, equipped with the knowledge and skills to succeed both academically and professionally.
