In Bloom - KEF Alumni

In October, the KEF Alumni Association held its Annual General Meeting  (AGM) at the Nairobi Arboretum Park where they networked and discussed ways of giving back to KEF. The 400-member Association will provide geometry sets, as well as branded pens and notebooks to the 2019 incoming KEF scholars.  They also set a goal to begin sponsoring KEF students by 2020 with money raised from membership dues and fundraising events.

The Alumni Association is a registered Community Based Organization (CBO) that is independently lead and run by former KEF scholars. Their mission is:

"To inform, engage and inspire alumni to stay connected to Kenya Education Fund, support its programs and contribute to its continuous success, as well as promote the personal and professional growth of its members."

KEF’s Executive Director, Bradley Broder, attended this year's AGM. Here's what he had to say about the experience:
"For me, being at the Alumni AGM was like seeing KEF's mission in action.  So many of our alumni who are now in university or who have started careers have not only managed to break out poverty, but they are also helping others do the same.  You can tell that they are grateful for the opportunity KEF has given them because they are passionate about paying it forward.  I could not be more proud of our alumni."

Even though I was born on fool’s day, I always knew I was destined for greatness. My name is John and this is my story.

In my final 8th grade exam I did well enough to get into a good high school, which I never could have afforded if not for the generosity of my sponsor and KEF.

But being a KEF student was not just about having your school fees paid.  Even better, KEF paid us visits at school making us feel part of a big family, a loved family.

After my 12th grade, I joined theTechnical University of Kenya to pursue Bachelor of Business Information Technology (BBIT) where I attained a First-Class Honors.  I always had a passion for computing and I am currently working as an ICT consultant, developer and a system analyst.

I also happen to be the director of an IT company, Reference Technologies, that deals with software, mobile applications, security systems, and other ICT solutions. Thank you so much KEF for holding my hand. I will surely do so for another person in need.
