KEF envisions a self-reliant Kenya achieved through access to quality education. An important part of our strategy involves building strong partnerships with 150 of Kenya's best high schools so that KEF Scholars have the best possible chance at success.
Each partner school selects a teacher to liaise with the KEF Nairobi office, helping our staff support KEF Scholars at their boarding schools faster and more efficiently.
In August, KEF hosted 49 liaison teachers at a 2-day conference in Nairobi where we thanked them for their partnership, discussed challenges and solutions related to working together, and then explored emerging trends in education, social media, technology, design thinking and alumni retention.
Bradley Broder, KEF's executive director says, "We feel that liaison teachers are the essential component to helping KEF scholars unleash their full potential during the 4-years of their KEF scholarship. By engaging dedicated teachers, they buy-in to KEF's vision and understand their role in taking our scholars to the next level."
Liaison teachers have helped dozens of our scholars start peer-led clubs in their schools. For example, KEF Scholars at Bahari Girls Secondary School established a club to fundraise for other needy students; at St. Mary’s Girls' in Isiolo (in arid Kenya) they plant trees and flowers to beautify the school; and at Baraka Ontooyie School, a club that mentors kids in a local orphanage.
KEF recognizes the dedication, sacrifice and passion of these special teachers. We thank them for enriching the lives of all Kenyan students and for helping KEF realize our vision of self-reliance through education.
