Our Process
STEP ONE
Application Process
Kenya Education Fund (KEF) provides scholarships to students in Kenya based on need and merit. The process starts in Grade 9, before students sit for their national exams. Each year, we distribute over 4,400 applications across all 47 counties. Our U.S.-based Application Review Committee carefully reviews and shortlists the applications. Shortlisted students are then invited to attend in-person interviews at various locations nationwide, ensuring accessibility for all. In our latest intake, 161 students were awarded scholarships, giving them the opportunity to continue their education and transform their futures.
STEP TWO
Scholarships
KEF scholars receive a comprehensive package to support their education, including:
Full school tuition
New uniform and school shoes
Textbooks and a scientific calculator
Exam fees
Sanitary pads
Access to KEF workshops
In addition, students write heartfelt letters each term to the donors who make their scholarships possible. Every donation directly supports the education of these scholars, empowering them to succeed.
STEP THREE
KEF Workshops
KEF Life Skills Workshops
The Kenya Education Fund (KEF) conducts life skills workshops for Form 1, 2, and 3 students during the April holidays. These workshops were designed to equip students aged 13 to 17with essential skills for personal development, academic success, and social responsibility.
Key Sessions and Impact:

Community Service
A parent’s meeting during the Form 3 workshop covers scholarship matters, financial planning, and the importance of community service, fostering collaboration between KEF and families to support students' academic and personal growth.
STEP FOUR
KEF Alumni Association
The Kenya Education Fund (KEF) Alumni Association aims to foster lifelong engagement between alumni and KEF, supporting the organization’s growth while promoting the personal and professional development of its members. By strengthening alumni connections with KEF and facilitating networking among alumni, the association seeks to inspire members to remain actively involved, support KEF programs, and contribute to their success. With a vision of creating empowered individuals who drive positive change in their communities, the association strives to build a thriving network of independent, impactful change-makers.
STEP FIVE
Bridge Scholarships to University
The Kenya Education Fund (KEF) established the Bridge Program to address the critical gap in transitioning from high school to higher education. Through this initiative, every KEF scholar who completes Form Four and attends their final CREW workshop receives a one-year scholarship to pursue vocational training, certificates, diplomas, or degrees at public institutions. This program ensures continued support for scholars as they take the next step in their academic and professional journeys. Currently, KEF transition rate is 100%!!
