My name is Halima Ismail.I'm 20 years old. I attended Bahari Girls High School where I completed my form four in the year 2018.
I am from Mombasa. I grew up there since that was my place of birth. I had a rough childhood when my dad was transferred to Nairobi for work and lost his job, from there things went wrong and life got difficult.
I really had no options since my father was jobless and my mother was a housewife. I was admitted to form one with the help of bursaries and well-wishers. Without KEF I'd have dropped out.
I heard about KEF from my class teacher when I was in form one. I decided to try my luck.
I was very happy, words can't explain it. I had finally found the light and I promised myself not to lose focus until I achieve my dreams.
It had a good impact. My parents were relieved because they knew sooner or later they wouldn't be able to raise my fees. But thanks to KEF their daughter will finish her high school education. Yeah, I did.
We went to different workshops throughout the four years. I really had a great experience, especially when interacting with my peers and learning various skills concerning our day-to-day life. The games and sports were also fun, it gave me a chance to feel positive.
My best activity was the lessons we had on various topics. Among them were communication skills, Character development, Problem-Solving and Decision making, and Drug awareness. My most memorable part was the day when we had talent actualization.
I had a lot of fun and decided to try singing which I felt was my thing.
I've usually had a problem with making friends, but the workshops made it easier for me with the Ice breaking activities and group discussions.
I faced challenges when I had to put extra work so that my grades would not go down.I had health problems that hindered my learning but I persevered.
I love reading, especially novels and magazines. I have a passion for acting,I hope one day I'll future in any series or drama if given a chance.
I got admission to Kenyatta University. I am now a student there pursuing a degree in Food, Nutrition, and Dietetics. I took a gap year and I just got back to school this January.
I want to finish school and get my degree in Nutrition and find a job in a hospital as a nutritionist. Then I'll go for my passion for acting. I'll then get a job and help my needy parents. I also have a passion for beauty therapy. If not for lack of cash, I'd enroll in a beauty college and get the required skills. I also want to have my own foundation like KEF where I help needy students.
Through community volunteer work.Including cleaning and teaching them various topics on how to deal with day-to-day life. My partner’s name was Madam Sharon. I want to thank her for her support all through my high school education and God will bless her abundantly.
To all current KEF scholars, work hard and put everything the workshops teach them your life and apply their skills. You shouldn't waste that golden opportunity everyone is fighting for.
My special thanks to Mentors Prisca, Geoffrey, and the rest of the team. They made the workshops great.
