“My name is Sharon Jeruto, I am nineteen years old. I attended Mugoiri Girls High School and completed high school in 2020. I am Nyandarua. I come from a family of four, me, my mom, little sister and brother. I learnt about KEF from a teacher at my former primary school. I had tried some other scholarship programs to no avail but KEF saw the potential in me and gave me their scholarship, I was over joyed.
It made things easier for my mom. My sister joined high school a year after I joined, and if I did not have the KEF it would have been hard for my mom to pay fees for both of us and one of us would have had to drop out.
As a KEF scholar, I attended KEF workshops and CREW. I loved the career guidance and reproductive health sessions. Career guidance because it helped me become focused at school and work towards getting grades that would help me get into my career of choice. While reproductive health is rarely taught in Kenyan high school, KEF allowed me all the information I needed and provided a safe space for questions.
My favorite thing was getting to interact with other people during the workshops. Making new friends and learning about their experiences was inspiring. I didn't really have any big challenges since school fees had been catered for, thanks to KEF.
I am currently a student at Mt Kenya University pursuing a bachelors in medical laboratory science. I love reading and writing poetry(It helps me relax)I also take part in walks that raise awareness about issues such as drug abuse. I would like to become a medical laboratory scientist and work at a research institute.
All I can say to my donor is to thank him so much. He really helped me and my family. I loved writing the letters to him. May God bless him and his family.
To all the current KEF students, work hard and use the opportunity provided by KEF to be your best. Thank you KEF for finding scholarships for needy children and helping them achieve their dreams.”
