LUCY IS NOW AN OPTHALMIC NURSE

At Kenya Education Fund, we’re proud to support students like Lucy, whose journey from hardship to success shows the life-changing power of education. Hear from Lucy as she shares how KEF and her donor’s support and opportunity helped her achieve her dreams:

“I still remember it like it was yesterday—how God sent help my way just when I was on the brink of confusion and desperation, longing to continue my studies. I was brought up in a family drowning in poverty, and life was tough. My dad wasn’t around—no one knew where he was. My mom was left as the sole breadwinner, working as a casual laborer at my school. From her meager earnings, she somehow managed to put food on the table and pay my siblings' school fees. But my own school fees had piled up, and things were looking bleak.”

I will never forget how kind our principal was—he allowed me to stay in school, even though the fees kept accumulating. It felt like a miracle, but the real turning point came the day my sponsor, Wendy, and KEF came to visit us at our high school. That day was the beginning of all the blessings in my life.

Wendy and KEF not only brought hope, but they also gave me a full scholarship that covered my entire four years of high school. It didn’t stop there—when I joined nursing college, my fees for the entire 3 and ½ years were also fully taken care of. I can’t even begin to explain how grateful I am.

Fast forward to today, and I’m a registered and certified ophthalmic nurse working at a county referral hospital in Eastern Kenya. My journey wouldn’t have been possible without Wendy and the unwavering support of KEF. Wendy is still in my life, and we are now like family. I truly thank God for how far I’ve come.

Forever grateful, Lucy”
