Wakanyi Hoffman grew up in a village on the outskirts of Nairobi, where she and her siblings were one of very few families that went to school and attained higher education. Being the last of five children, and brought up by struggling middle class civil servants, Wakanyi knows too well just how precious a solid education is and how difficult it is for most Kenyans to attain it. She studied journalism at the United States International University in Nairobi and is currently taking an online creative writing course with a special focus on children’s literature.
In order to really get to the heart of poverty, Wakanyi believes the solution lies with future generations. It would be her dream to witness children from impoverished backgrounds rise above the limitations that poverty brings and help rewrite the story of Africa. That of hope and progress and permanently replace the current “war and poverty” that is sadly synonymous with any headlines on Africa. Being a mother of three and having so far lived in six developing countries in both Africa and Asia, Wakanyi has witnessed the effect of a good educational foundation and how that impacts the world we live in. Wakanyi believes that the KEF is on its way to helping children in Kenya rewrite their destiny.
